Noise Level

We appreciated the wide ranging menu; excellent food; attentive, upbeat service; and lengthy list of craft beers, including many on tap.

I had a burger, she has hummus. Saturday night and the place was virtually empty by 8:15 PM, maybe it recovered after we left at 9? The burger was good and nicely presented, the humus was OK. Decorated in faux historic documents. Good beer selection and a long wine list, which I did not peruse. Take the kids, have a beer, watch some sports and enjoy a good a burger ($14 and $16 depending upon which one is ordered), prepared as requested. To be fair, I was expecting a more upscale experience with a more varied menu, and maybe some authenticity in the ambiance. It's good for what it is.

Food was good, service minimal. Not enough parking so you are forced to leave your keys with young valets. Skip this place if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing dinner. A very noisy, yelling crowd of diners.

Service was top notch. I think the servers name was Eric. Food was disappointing. Had the featured salad that was supposed to be grilled watermelon and shrimp. Shrimp was good - they forgot to grill the watermelon. Plus not much watermelon. Burgers looked good at the other tables. maybe that is your safe bet there.

A place that always comes to mind when friends are getting together. Great yummy food and good choice of wine. The noise level can be a little loud but a booth helps dull it out a bit. Parking can be tight.

We love this restaurant but PLEASE bring the chicken marsala and the spicy string beans back!

This was an excellent restaurant for our post Valley Forge historical tour. Good food, good ambiance and nearby. Most importantly, it was a historical location after visiting a historical landmark.

Food was good. Atmosphere was a cool looking tavern. Service from the kitchen was very slow. Our waiter would disappear for 15 minutes at a time and we couldn't find him. We would go back hoping the service is quicker.

Fun waiter, great food, reasonably priced - who could ask for anything more?!?

Love eating here. Convenient location, great food and drinks!
by Sharonie on June 27, 2018
The food was delicious as usual. I decided to try something other than the chicken pot pie, which I think is the best I've ever had. Love the ambiance of a historic tavern. The waiter was exceptionally good. Overall a very enjoyable experience. Will definitely go back again.

Really good food. Decent local beer selection. Attentive service and quick turnaround

I really can't. A table away was a group of one man , two women and FOUR very small children and two of them were screaming and out of control. I complained but the manager was very weak as was one of the mothers, (I do not know if the man was the father of those two or not but you just don't take 4 kids under 3 years old out on a Sat night and ruin everyone's evening.

Had a lovely Father's Day/Birthday Brunch. Very accomodating as we needed handicap access. Great service & food selection, loved everything we tried...too much to try it all!! Will definitely go back!
by ReginaH on June 14, 2018
We were seated for over 15 minutes watching servers wait on people seated after us. We had to finally flag someone down to take care of us. Then, he had to go find someone else. Not a good experience.

I love Black Powder. It's one of my favorite restaurants in the area! They need to bring back the Chicken Marsala, though!!! Waiters are fabulous ... everyone is very efficient and considerate about making sure everyone is enjoying the food. We appreciate that.

Black Powder Tavern offered excellent food at a great value in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The service was very good and the food was delicious! We will be going back again soon!

Overall good food and service.

We had a reservation and upon arrival we were told we may have to wait for our table. The restaurant was extremely crowded as it was graduation weekend and many families were there. The staff was apologetic about the wait and moved quickly to get us our table as soon as it was cleared. It was only a few minutes wait. Our waitress was excellent. We were happy with our corner table/booth and the food was great. We were very happy with our celebratory graduation dinner.

Food was excellent. I had the short rib grilled cheese which was simple and tasty. My wife thought the hangar steak was fantastic. The grilled asparagus was perfectly done with a good crunch. Nice beer selection - no problem finding something to our tastes. They had 4 wheat/wits on tap which my wife appreciated. Desert was fine but overpriced for the portion. We definitely plan to come back. Complementary valet is a bonus when it’s busy.

Nice, clean environment. Food was good - date’s salad was very good; burger was average. Number of good beers on tab. Service was OK, seemed like a little new to job. Reasonable prices.

Outstanding, friendly service. Waiter Tom was attentive, efficient. Manager Linda stopped to chat, and get feedback on service and food quality. Both inited us to return soon!

Service and food was awesome! I had a table of 8 people as a "Thank you" occasion. Any dietary restriction were easily handled. I love how the staff works as a team to cater to the patrons needs! Hostess was awesome!

Frequent customer. On this particular day, server never came to our table and we had to get a new server (who was good). They also forgot an entree in the oven and had to remake it. They compensated us an appetizer and the manager was very accommodating. Will definitely go back, they just had an off day!
by SharonR on May 5, 2018
The food was surprisingly good. We were looking for a reasonably-priced place with a wide variety of foods. Two of us had specialty salads, one had a burger, and one had an entree. Everyone was pleased. The place is a little loud since it could be called a tavern/sports bar, but it was fine. The waiter was also friendly and attentive. I'd go back.

Ok food, nice place inside, slow service.

We celebrated a family birthday. I will comment that our table, while fitting in with the theme, was a little too rustic- the rough-hewn boards were not level, and more than once, a plate, a glass, a piece of silverware started sliding toward one of us. We also had a server who seemed a little unexperienced. He was pleasant, but not outgoing. We enjoyed the free Jim Beam tasting going on for the Kentucky Derby.

Ribs were all fat. Fries were requested to be crispy and they came out cold.

Three of us went for dinner - each of us had a burger. The Italian burger was outstanding! The friend provolone on the burger was perfect!

Very nice. My friends enjoyed it

Love the Chimay, Dominic is a great waiter (have had him previously also!), and the meals are outstanding. Whenever we visit the area, we have at least one meal at Black Powder. Probably at least our 5th visit there! And we will be back !!!

The food was very good and the service was excellent!!

Excellent service and meal. Would definitely return if we are in the area again.

This is my second time here, and we sat in the back section and it was on the louder side assuming because there was some parties back there but all in all it was a good experience, great food and the wait staff was not bad either. Only wish is that we sat somewhere else, and out waitress towards the end forgot about or table.

We found the restaurant to be less than enjoyable. They appear to have poor management. Making a reservation seems to be a waste of time, having to wait more than 20 minutes for a table seems to be inappropriate. Their serve staff though amiable were less than efficient. Waiting for a drink order for 15+ minutes was problematic! We found the good eatable but nothing to rave about. No plans to return ever!!!

Interesting location. Food was average but our waitress was very pleasant.

My husband and I come here periodically and we just brought our Canadian friend here for its historical charm and it was a hit. The menu is great for all palates and the prices are a great value (especially for the lure of its history). FYI-while chatting with a coworker about our weekends this morning, she said that she & her mother went here Saturday both for the 1st time. She said the mgmt went out of their way to accomodate her mother's seating needs (couldn't take stairs and has a hard time at high-top tables). They were very pleased about that and they both thoroughly enjoyed their meals.

Great food, service, and ambiance. A neat woody tavern feel. Excellent menu choices. Food was we'll prepared and tasty. Service was quick, attentive and spot on. Will return soon.

Don't get the fish and chips!!!!! Two people at my table ordered them and they were not edible.
by OpenTable Diner on April 1, 2018
Wasn’t expecting to be seated with a private party on the second floor when I made made the reservation with so much notice before the date. I feel as if I should have been notified and had the opportunity to change my time if there were no other tables available on the first floor for a party of 8. I had four children that had to make the steps.
by EllenM on March 31, 2018
Food was ok as was service. There was a lot of noise from the servers going in and out of the kitchen, which was right behind our table.
by PatD on March 31, 2018
Food was very good. Nice children's menu, which helps! Only "issue" was the order the food came out. One diner ordered soup and salad and no entrée. He was asked if he would like his salad first, which he said yes to. But soup came out at entrée time, then salad. Another diner also received his salad with his dinner. Things just seemed a little out of order. Otherwise food was great and would go again.

Friendly but slow service. Good food
by SallyS on March 27, 2018
Our waitress was friendly and answer all our questions. My only complaint was my club sandwich was dry. I asked for plain mayo along with my friend and got it. My other friend ordered the short rib grilled cheese and raved about it. Our waitress again recommend it. Good job!

No fruit. More buffet options needed.
