We another great visit to Black Powder Tavern. We asked to move to different table because of noise and were accommodated immediately. We enjoyed that location, and the food was excellent. We'll be back!

We had a 12:15pm reservation for 7 and had never been previously. Pleased by the atmosphere and the charm of the place. Our server was training a new server and didn't seem happy about it. Our drink order and salads came out quickly, however, we then had to wait over 45 minutes for our meals to come. When the server came by with other people's orders, she threw over her shoulder that our food would be out "soon". The food was delivered with no apologies for the delay. The quality was excellent and everyone agreed it tasted very good. Our server came out with the check and stated "you didn't wan't coffee or dessert, right?". Not a great first impression for service.

I had a business lunch at the Black Powder Tavern with one other person. From the nice reception when first checking in to the good service provided by the waiter, everything was excellent. We didnt eat much food, just a roast beef sandwich with fries and a salmon salad, but both of us thoroughly enjoyed out lunches and were able to discuss what we needed to discuss without being rushed. We had a a good meeting and a good meal. Thank you.

One of our go-to spots. Food is always great, service always on point and they have great liquor and wine selection. Rewards program pays off too!

Enjoyed the food. We arrived around 5:30 on a Saturday evening. Lots of open seating at that time. By 7, the place was packed.

was very disappointed, service and food was not good. Waiter completely forgot my order and told me --i must not have heard you, wel Sorry--by the time he came back to our table everyone else was finished eating, too late to re-order.!!--I would not come back.

Dinner was great. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. The only drawback was that our dinner coincided with Happy Hour which made conversation at our table a bit of a challenge.

Dined here a number of times. Great and varied menu, something for everyone. Our go to place when we want to enjoy small plates, or a good burger/steak/salad/etc...large beer and wine menu as well.

Food was really pretty good. Not sure I liked the table we had (close to door and main walk through) but that's just a quibble, could have waited for a better table. Server very nice and courteous. Rest is like all the usual for this kind of place. Had to ask for water twice. I like a straw, wife doesn't but we didn't get the option unless we would have asked, again. Ordered the mussels, asked for bread with them and was told they came with fries but bread could be brought. Got the bread and the fries, and (surprise!) the fries were piled on top :-o. Not sure how much starch I could stand so I just took the fries off. Didn't come with a little cocktail fork but got tired of asking for things so just used my regular fork. small things but would have bumped the rating up without them.

We had a fun experience! Food was very good, we had a reservation & were seated immediately. Our waitress, Devon, was exceptional !!! Only complaint is that restaurant is very noisy.., I could barely hear any of the conversation at our table.

We were there at peak dinner hour, we were seated promptly and attended to buy courteous staff. Food and beverage came out fast. However the noise level was very loud. I️t was hard to here the person sitting next to you.

Wonderful meal and my husband and I had the special and it was delicious.

I was very excited to try this restaurant ever since I moved to Philadelphia, as I heard a lot about it and how historic and charming it was. However, I was very disappointed when I went for brunch last Sunday. The food was very bad quality, old, and cold, and there was not enough selection. Everything tasted really bad, and the service was poor. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be coming back.

We went to Black Powder Tavern as we were visiting the area with family. We attended the Sunday buffet. The food was horrible - the rolls were stale (literally too hard to cut open), seafood was of questionable quality to be serving on a buffet line, many foods/salad/fruit puréed for waffles seemed like the food was going bad. We were so disappointed to spend 100 dollars on that quality of food. I will never return and would not recommend this restaurant.

Historical place, good sandwiches, vibrant atmosphere

I ate the steak dinner with roasted cauliflower and asparagus. The wine selected was a delightful red . The waiter Andrew was attentive and competent. He was invisible except when needed. Overall 5 star service, food and service were commendable

We went to the brunch buffet on Sunday morning and it was very good. Great breakfast meats, omelette station, fluffy waffles, and a dessert table.

Great place for a date if you enjoy a lively setting! High end bar food that's absolutely delish! BPT poutine fries, calamari and Angus burger were spot on!

Best French onion soup EVER.
by OpenTable Diner on November 11, 2017
A very pleasant experience .Exceptional because out waiter ran into the parking lot to give me my forgotten take-away food and most of all, I later realized that I had lost a valued bangle during dinner. When I called later, to report that, the staff obviously got right on it and found my bangle. Unheard of; I just assumed it was gone forever. Outstanding!

First time eating here. Food was awesome, atmosphere was great, and the service was okay; although our waiter did guide our decision making. The French onion soup was awesome, the tortellini was amazing, and the chicken sandwich was rediculous!

Only one of 5 of us enjoyed the food.

Enjoyed a quick lunch - food came out promptly. One order was wrong but the server apologized and it was replaced quickly. Good solid food.

This is a really great restaurant. The food was delicious. The atmosphere is great. Good for couples, groups, families. We had the poutine fries for an app. The perfect start to the meal. My husband had the grilled cheese and I had the autumn salad with salmon. Both were right on point. The only place we had an issue was service. Our server was not very attentive and hard to find. But I'm still giving it 4 stars for service. He was still friendly and those who checked on us and brought our food were great. It seemed like they might have been short staffed. But everyone still had a smile on their face. We will definitely go back.

We live around the corner and love this place. Wait staff is very friendly and helpful. Irish nachos are fantastic! The pork chop special is out of this world! Cajun Mac and cheese great. Never had a bad dish!

The brunch was fabulous. The food was fresh and varied and the chef service was attentive to every detail. The only negative was that our soiled plates were not removed in a timely manner. Otherwise, great value for the price and very delicious!

We had a very nice meal with the family, and loved it!
by openopen12 on October 12, 2017
We have been long time patrons, sadly the food was sub par, calamari dry and tasteless Quesadea too spicy soup good, server very nice but overworked, no way to handle so many tables. Happy hour drinks in bar area only, so no one at tables seemed to have a drink,we might go back, but not for awhile. Miss the old days

Great meal from start to finish! Loved the history (wish it showed more in the menu or decor), the food, and the service. Will definitely tell everyone to go here and will be back soon!!

My family was in town for my brothers wedding. We had a wonderful dinner with a large group. My father has a restricted diet and the chef came out to help him pick out the right dinner for him! I would highly recommend this restaurant to everybody!

I had been to this place for lunch a number of times with no problems. However, my first visit for dinner was a complete nightmare. The kitchen must have been having problems, because it took 1 hour and 15 minutes before our dinner was finally served to us after ordering. The appetizer was misrepresented (i.e., 2 of the 3 primary ingredients stated on the menu were not included in the dish). I ordered a drink without ice and was charged $3.00 more than the cost of the drink. A supervisor visited the table before we left to advise that I received a 50% larger pour because I requested the drink neat. That did not appear to be the case (and, at any rate, I was not told the drink would be more expensive because I didn't want ice). I have read about "nefarious upcharges" in NYC, but had never experienced this personally in the suburbs of Philly. In addition, a grilled salmon dish I had ordered previously at lunch included a portion of salmon approximately one-half the size of the lunch portion. My personal experience at restaurants generally is that dinner portions tend to be at least equal to or larger than lunch portions. We received multiple apologies from our waiter and two different management types, but nobody offered to try to make it right with some sort of accommodation (except the offer of a free dessert, which we did not want but accepted reluctantly - - the waiter advised that a complimentary dessert was the extent of his authority). The restaurant was not full (i.e., there were open tables and no people waiting to be seated), so it was difficult to understand the magnitude of the delays and problems. People kept blaming things on a new manager. Aside from being very unprofessional, it assumes that patrons who are having a terrible dining experience would be fine with the explanation that you are incapable of running your restaurant because your key employees are both new and inept. Overall, a very disappointing experience. I will not be back again.

The food was great and would go back but we had to ask to sit outside because it was very noisy inside. Too hard to hear each other at the table inside.

Great restaurant and super waiter! Food was very good. Try the app of stuffed dates, fabulous!
by OpenTable Diner on September 07, 2017
We have been several times while in the area. The food is creative. We had Tom as our waiter twice and he is a great guy. This visit we did not have him and it took three requests to get a glass is water. The meal was served quickly. The check not so fast. Later we found out we had the wrong check and wrong credit card. We were able to find and exchange our cards many miles away

Great food but not the best ambiance for quality discussion. Business lunch meeting: Great menu, accommodating all palates. Preparation and food quality are great . Service was a bit lacking and it is quite loud - great for HH but not the best for quality discussions.
