45 minutes for a burger....

JJ Bootleggers, known for its mixed drinks with moon shine! Awesome drink selection and great prices! Watch out for sports games because the bar does get very tight and hard to find a table but otherwise a great place to take your friends and enjoy dinner and drinks!

the place was the worst place I have ever been too calling this a brunch was a understatement!! the food was not good, there was no scrambled eggs!! HOW?? there was nothing on this so called buffet that was advertised on the IG page. the pictures on there a stunt pictures!!! I seen them with my own eyes placing the pictures while I was there. and the top this all off....THEY ADDED AT 16% GRAUDITY TO OUR CHECK!! FOR WHAT?? WAS SERVERED OURSELEVES WHAT WAS THE TIP FOR?????? I WANT MY MONEY BACK ACTUALLY

Waitress was fine. Drinks were watered down. Food wasn't good and advertisedmenu wasn't available. Complaints to the manager were met with "you can pay your bill and leave". Just rude. A horrible way to celebrate a birthday. Never again.

Saw an ad from JJ Bootleggers promoting brunch every Sunday starting at 10. We got there at 10:30 and they were closed.

First time going here and was pretty disappointed. While our server Jen was very good, the food was not good and for the price, it was completely overpriced. Seems like they want this place to be more higher end with the prices they’re charging but it doesn’t work. I doubt we’ll go back unless it’s to grab a few beers.

Great food, drinks and service.

Some of the food that came out was cold. Poor service. The server made things feel awkward, not sure if maybe she was new. The place was empty. The server was doing homework at the bar. Silverware was dirty.

Food was very good. Our waitress was very attentive and very pleasant . Was our first time there. We all (4) really enjoyed. Went for friends birthday. Will definitely go back

It was my first time but it will not be my last time going. Food was hot and the drinks was okay.

Brussel Sprouts loved them! Great cheesesteak egg rolls, love bars that pay attention to details: chargers, bag hooks! The games were cute, great to keep ppl interacted and OFF phones! Will be coming back!

Bootleggers used to be our favorite spot to dine whenever we visited Old City, we always enjoyed the lively atmosphere, fun vibe, and great drinks. During our most recent visit, the food was served cold and the server couldn't be bothered with us, even though there were only a few tables there she just sat at the bar on her phone and ignored us. It was around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night when we left and the place was completely dead. They had decent happy hour drink specials and the neighborhood is fun but honestly I probably will not go back, there is too much competition around.

We went for a last-minute lunch on the recommendation of my boss who is a Philly native. Food was great. Beers were great and and we wound up staying for a few rounds and tried the moonshine flights. Servers were friendly but not annoying and the overall vibe was really chill and fun.

Filet Mignon and shrimp kabobs were tough although I wouldn't blame the cook, I would have to say they may have been sitting under a warmer for a length of time since it took the waitress forever for her to serve us. We actually saw the chef come out to get her. I'm not exactly sure why because when we were there it wasn't busy. My very picky son-in-law said the burger was worth the wait. My son said it was the best mac n cheese he ever had and my sweet potato fries were the best I ever had.

I met a friend here for lunch and it was a good spot. The menu was really big and our server was really fast. The food came out hot and was really delicious - the mac and cheese was probably the best I've had!

Disappointed. Made a reservation for 6p but there was a bar crawl in the area and they did not save tables. I was told "just grab a table when you see one open up." Ok seriously I made reservations??!! Then it took forever to get the table I finally found cleaned never mind how long it took to order and get our food. The only saving grace was that the food was good.

First meal during my recent trip to Philly. Burger was good, moonshine was awesome. There was literally nobody else in the place, mostly because of the time of day. It definitely leaned more toward bar with food available than restaurant, but that was fine since I was the only one there. It's probably a great place to chill with friends later in the evening.

Thanks to Katie and the kitchen for a grand FIRST TIME visit! Excellent menu suggestions by Katie, and every bite delicious. "Southern" tastes for this TN girl were authentic and fun to eat. Get Smashed Tater Tots for an app ..... and don't leave without eating the meatloaf! YUM! Moonshine in the house -- cheers!

Went here with some friends for a casual dinner. Drinks were good. The moonshine flight was fun, allowing you to compare different flavors. My mac and cheese was very good. Mash potato tater tots were great. Everyone else had burgers and liked them. Presentation of food was adequate, but nothing exciting. I would go back again.

Fun, moonshine-themed restaurant with a country-western vibe. We went for the all you can eat mac and cheese on Mondays. We loved the buffalo chicken. The moonshine cocktails were surprisingly tasty and we loved the tabletop Connect Four sets! A fun night out.
by OpenTable Diner on October 1, 2016
Honestly the best ribs I have ever eaten. They took a little longer to prepare than the rest of the meals, but they were totally worth it. The buffalo chicken egg rolls were also very tasty.

JJ Bootleggers atmosphere was great. Loved the décor. The food was excellent. Server gave great suggestions. Would go back for sure.

The food was great. Our waitress was terrible. It took us 45 minutes to get our food and the restaurant was not busy. She brought the food out randomly so some of us had food, others did not. She also brought out half of some people's orders but not the rest til later. When we paid the bill, there was $8 and some change due back on a $32 bill. We always tip 20% even when service is bad but she never brought our change back (assuming we were going to leave 25+%!!!!) Only when we asked for our change, did she bring it.

My husband and I had a few hours to spare since the children were gone and narrowed our restaurant list down to JJ Bootleggers. I am intrigued by moonshine so I figured we should check it out. The bar displays so many colors which was nice. The restaurant was not overly crowded but the waitstaff appeared to be short-handed and it was evident that they may have been overwhelmed for a short period . Our waitress was nice even after I told her I had a groupon that I did not initially present. My husband had wings and a burger that he enjoyed. He stated that his drink was overwhelming with club soda so he did not finish it. I had cheese-steak egg rolls and mac and cheese. My mac and cheese with shrimp added was so great. I loved it . I would definitely bring my children the next time . They also have connect four that you can play at your table while you wait which is also great.

Great Burger
I got a burger and a beer combo which was awesome deal at 10 bucks. Solid Burger

Thoroughly Mediocre
We were excited to give JJ's a try after seeing the menu but were disappointed in the food. We ordered wings, the loaded tater tots and shared the smoked applewood bacon burger. The wings were the best of the bunch, but we were wishing a few more wings came with the order. The loaded tater tots looked cool - they were basically fried loaded mashed potato balls with a cheese dip. Unfortunately, they were bland and not really worth the indulgence. The burger also fell on the bland side, where the meat patty could have used some seasoning before being cooked. Beer menu was limited, but we both found a good IPA to enjoy. No complaints about the service, our server was very attentive and pleasant. They were also playing soccer on the tvs at the bar, which my husband enjoyed. The atmosphere was cool and they had the front windows open as it was a nice day, so it would have been very enjoyable if the food had just been more flavorful.

Speechless
JJ Bootleggers is hands down one great place to dine. I took my mother there on a Monday afternoon and plan on returning next week and the week after that and the week after that. The food was absolutely amazing the drinks was pretty good as well...... I can not wait to go back next week and try something different. HATS OFF TO THE CHEF

Celebrating Moonshine and Independence
Place was fun and surprisingly empty despite being first Friday (July 4th weekend?). Our server was fine, although took longer than expected with the decreased population in the restaurant. Food overall wasn't bad. Wasn't amazing, but the mac and cheese was worth swimming in, literally and figuratively. Drinks were worth coming for, especially when you get their moonshine. Tl;dr...decent food, good drinks, little slow service but nothing horrible.

GREAT DRINKS
Food was good but springs Rolls and vegetables were a bit greasy and chicken wings were dry. Veggie burgers were delicious. Drinks were very good and Happy Hour was a nice added benefit (half price before 7:00).

nice find on 2nd st
I went on a week night, it was not noisy, staff was attentive and food was good. I had the country punch which tasted really good! will go again

promising, but they need to get it together!
Service was extremely poor, despite the fact that the restaurant was not that busy. Music was extremely loud making it difficult to have a conversation. We had a party of 8 people with a reservation at 6:15pm. Because there was no host or hostess to be found, we had to seat ourselves. We waited for over an hour to get our meals. Table was not cleared between appetizers/dinner & desserts. Nor in between rounds of drinks. This was quite disappointing. Waitress seemed apologetic, however, no efforts were made by management to resolve issues over lengthy wait for meals, & messy table. The food was good, though I'd be hesitant to return because of the inept way in which the restaurant is operating.

A fun little place
The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is not bad, but nothing to write home about. The drink selection is the unique aspect here- all sorts of mixed drinks made with their own brand of moonshine.

really good burger you don't have to get the moonshine, pretty casual

Moonshine in Old City, Philadelphia
Interesting moonshine drinks, very different than what most other bars in the area have to offer. Food was outstanding. It is a bit expensive, but the 5 pm to 7 pm happy hour specials are discounted.
