It was very good. I always like it there. They were busy this evening & they were a bit slow, but we didn't mind. We weren't in a hurry.

We were seen to promptly, even with a very large group arriving just before us. Our server was professional, friendly and helpful. He was attentive to our needs without hovering. The food was excellent - we all had very different main dishes. The only slight disappointment I had was that the sauce for the risotto balls was not as good as I remember it from two years ago. A small, first-world problem for me indeed. The prices are in line with upscale Italian restaurants. We will return.

It took a while to place our order but the service was excellent overall.

We went for dinner and as always enjoyed it immensely. Scott waited on us and service was impeccable. The food was delicious and lots of choice. We will be back!

Cafe Chianti hides its charms from the outside. The restaurant is in a modern building with a relatively plain street facade, but step inside and it feels like a classical Italy. The decor is a tad heavy but, again, classic, with plenty of space between tables for intimate conversation. There are some delights on the menu, too. Arancini balls are a favourite, as is the asparagus wrapped in proscuitio, with a fried egg! Sounds strange but it is delightfully flavourful. We skipped the pizza/pasta options and went with the seafood crepe and the duck. I wasn't wild about the mushroom rissotto but that's a personal thing - my wife loved it. Desserts were both lemony and light - cheesecake and panna cotta. And to make the evening even better, we had used Groupon to get a fantastic bargain on the meal. Well worth it for a lovely date night.

Well worth the drive and the service was excellent.

The gluten free minestrone soup was excellent. It was a nice treat as I have not had minestrone soup in quite a while being Celiac. I ordered the lamb shank entree for dinner, gluten free. I was told the sauce had gluten in it when it was delivered to the table (even though it was marked as gluten free in the menu) and that the chef had prepared a gluten free sauce for me instead. The sauce was a very dark brown, almost black which made the meal look very unappealing. The lamb was not very tender and the sauce creates an overall unpleasant taste to the entire meal. I was disappointed with this as it was my first time here and for my birthday at that and the rest of my table seemed to enjoy their meals greatly. I chalk it up to ordering the wrong thing but the meal has no where to go but up in my opinion.

First time at Cafe Chianti, for our group of four. It was a warm, friendly, inviting atmosphere. Service was great, thank you Scott. The food was delicious. We all had a different starter, main and dessert everything was of excellent standard.I look forward to our next trip to Halifax so we can visit again.

Service was fine. Food was average. My wife’s fish was overcooked and my pizza was bland. Wine list by the glass was just ok. Overall, there are lots of other options to choose from in Halifax.

Great food and great atmosphere. The staff are attentive. Try the shrimp appetizer- it was amazing!

Our server was great.....very professional and friendly at the same time. Chicken under a Brick was fabulous. Only weak part was the Caesar salad......not creamy or very much dressing and could not taste any anchovies.

Café Chianti's ambiance is lovely, service is above average and food is always fabulous!

We had a wonderful dinner with friends, the service & food were excellent!

The food was amazing, can't wait to go back to Halifax so we can return to Chianti and try different menu items. The lamb stuffed raviolis were delicious and so was the veal! Definitely must try's!

We are from USA and we're in town for weekend. Recommended to go here by Inn owner. It was pleasently good. Real Italian food but the portions were very small on the entree section. One of every veggie too. But food taste was good. If you are in town and need a pleasant meal, go here.

Excellent service and great food, enjoyed our dinner very much!

A local favourite that never fails to please. Great food and service.
by LauraS on February 12, 2018
The decor and menu selection could be classified as outdated by the pessimistic but I prefer to view it as classic and familiar. I feel the restaurant is "owning" the sort of stereotypical Italian restaurant image and doing a darn good job of it, too. Our waiter was perfect, attentive without being overbearing at all. We were invited to ask any questions we may have had. He was also very gracious about us using a groupon for a discount. The only flaw was we both felt parts of our meals were slightly overdone - my spaghetti and his risotto were both a bit past al dente but not soft enough to ruin the dish. Everything was very well seasoned and cooked to perfection otherwise. The lemon cheesecake was especially delightful.

Very good food as usual. Had the seafood linguine which is the best. Had purchased a groupon for a meal for two which includes appetizer, main, and desert. It’s important to note that for those you have to pay tax on the full amount of the meals, not the groupon itself so it ends up not being as good a deal as you think. Prices at Chianti are on the high end and food quality is at par with that.

Enjoyed a great meal and a lovely evening. Thanks so much!

Excellent food and exemplary team service!

We have dined here before and loved it but this time not so much. On this visit, the service was excellent but some dishes were just ok. We ordered the escargot and calamari to start and while the calamari was delicious, I found the sauce the escargot came in was kind of blah. It needed salt or some zip added to it. We had the seafood linguine and the blackened haddock as entrees. The linguine was good, not great, and the haddock was a thin end piece so while the blackened seasoning made it flavourful, the overall dish was a disappointment. The vegetables (carrot, peppers, zucchini) that came with the haddock were delicious and cooked perfectly. However, for ~$100, We probably won’t go back.

I found the prices outrageous. My main course of Cannaloni with veal was burnt. Found portion very small. I will not be back.
by OpenTable Diner on January 26, 2018
It was my first time experiencing duck. It was fantastic. The ambiance is perfect and the food is fantastic. The waiter we had was the nicest man we had ever met and we will certainly be returning.

My wife, son, his girlfriend and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Café Chianti on Tuesday evening. It was my wife's birthday and the restaurant staff made it very special including candle lit desert. Two ordered from the "dine around Halifax" menu which was great and offered good value. I enjoyed the lobster bisque, which contained surprisingly large portions of lobster. Initially I thought it was a little pricy at $15, but it was really worth it. My strip loin steak was done to perfection, medium rare. It was tender and had a great grilled flavour. Veggies were hot and crispy. A nice basket of fresh warm bread was provided at no extra charge. I would have enjoyed a little horseradish with my steak, but it was not available. The presentation of the meal was impressive. We took pictures! Overall, the best meal I have had in Halifax recently.
by OpenTable Diner on January 23, 2018
Every trip we make to Halifax includes a dinner at Cafe Chianti. The food is superb, the service is friendly and attentive and the ambience is refined. Perfect for a special evening! The only drawback is lack of parking.
by OpenTable Diner on January 20, 2018
Had to remind waiter that a birthday request was requested at time of reservation
by OpenTable Diner on January 06, 2018
My wife and I had the steak and it was just perfect! the wine was also very good. The only critique I have is the tiramisu was in a small glass and for the price I thought we should have gotten more. It tasted ok but I've actually had better for less money. Overall, though the experience was great and I'd definitely recommend the place. In fact, we already bought a coupon for a couple of our friends who just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

We Went on New Years Eve - Expensive fixed menu we were not warned about when we confirmed reservation with restaurant - given poor seating, squeezed in next to bar close to TV and not in main restaurant area. However, Food was excellent - especially crab cakes and service prompt and friendly. Would go back on a regular menu price day.
by Notimpressed on December 31, 2017
100$ a plate was not even close to being worth it. I was expecting a lot bigger and better quality meats for the price. The taste wasn’t bad just the portions and cuts were not worth 100$ for a meal. I should have went to the Bycycle theif if I wanted to pay money like this and got a real 4 course meal.
by OpenTable Diner on December 30, 2017
Thank you Scott for the amazing service. The seafood linguini is absolutely incredible! Great wine selection, will for sure be back!
by OpenTable Diner on December 27, 2017
It was OK bur my wife's entree was not so good the Seafood Linguini was great as were the appetizers. The desserts were not worth ordering at least the coconut gelato, dry flaky and not a good taste. Wine was fine. A bit of a disappointment this time but will try again as in the past it was much better!

Cafe Chianti has a good reputation and they lived up to it for my wife's birthday dinner for 10 of us. The food was terrific and the service was attentive and professional. We will definitely go again before long.
by OpenTable Diner on December 16, 2017
We had a scrumptious dinner, and the service was very attentive. My only complaint is that the dining room was very busy that night, and it was quite noisy. It was a bit difficult to have conversations with other people at the table.
by OpenTable Diner on December 15, 2017
Hadn’t been to Cafe Chianti in many years, so glad we visited again. Th e food was excellent..we will definitely return with friends.
by BernW on December 13, 2017
The food was good. If gluten-free fettucini or linguine were offered instead of penne, I would have enjoyed the carbonara more.
by EllenK on December 09, 2017
Always delicious food! The service is friendly, and courteous. I will definitely be back!
by BrendanE on December 09, 2017
The ambiance and variety of menu items makes this a perfect spot for a romantic evening. The mood was perfect and the food was delicious. I'll be back.

A consistently good restaurant in the south end of Halifax. The proprietors have extensive experience in providing very good food and service in a charming, relaxed atmosphere. There is good choice on the menu and a very good selection of wine. Definitely worth a visit for lunch or dinner. Excellent choice for small groups or dinner parties in a private room secluded from the main restaurant and bar.
by OpenTable Diner on December 04, 2017
It is a lovely room with well spaced tables. The menu is creative and all selections were excellent. Our server was outstanding.

First time I was ever there..Won a gift card through facebook and took my son there for his 19th b-day. We both loved it..The food was awesome, very tasteful...The desserts were to die for.....I had a lemon cheesecake and you can actually taste that the lemon was freshly squeezed.. Can't wait to go back!

Simply amazing food.
by OpenTable Diner on November 17, 2017
Okay, but over-rated and over priced. The presentation is very nice, as is the service and atmosphere. It's a great place for dates or intimate dinner with friends. However, there were some very obvious and avoidable errors with some of the dishes. I had the duck, which was very nicely done at medium rare. The vegetables, too, we're very nice. The risotto was under done with crunchy bits throughout. Not what I would expect from a higher end Italian place. The spaghetti seafood had fresh seafood, but mushy, not fresh (pre-cooked) pasta. A disappointment at, again, a higher end Italian restaurant. The brick chicken dish had good chicken--moist and flavorful. However, the potato accompaniment was bland, without seasoning and totally tasteless. It tasted like a warmed over dish from a day or two before. Not good, especially for a... well, you know the rest. Dessert! Yay! The lemon cheesecake was dry and had an artificial after taste. The flourless chocolate cake and the cheesecake were drizzled with a chocolate sauce that can only be identified as Hersheys syrup. Yes, Hersheys syrup, straight up. Finally, the creme brule lacked the smooth consistency of homemade, and was more like that of a mix from a box. Not good. Green tea was a local store brand, President's Choice. Although I'm sure the store brand is of the highest quality, it's not what I would expect at a fine dining establishment. I could go on about the mediocre appetizers, but if you've read this far, you have the idea. Overall, the chef is 'phoning it in' at this place, and not living up to the prices or atmosphere. My advice, savvy diner, is to lay your money and expectations elsewhere.

Cafe Chianti put up a group of 11 doctors from a local university. We were the loudest group there and we're sorry about that. The service was phenomenal. The food was incredible. The ambiance was perfection. They get all the stars on every review. Thank you to the staff at Cafe Chianti.
