The proteins were impeccable, the vegetables were so al dente they were more like crudite. The cheesecake was to die for.

I live out of town and I booked this venue for Mother’s Day so the rest of the family could go out for a nice meal. Everyone loved the food. Even the family’s toughest food critic - my mom! Thank you for making it a special Mother’s Day!

My wife and I hadn't been back to Cafe Chianti for a couple of years. At that time it was a very nice restaurant with an international menu, good food. Today it is very definitely Italian, and very good. We had the best meal we have had in Halifax in recent memory. I can wholeheartedly recommend this for a great dinner experience.

The Lobster ravioli was delish-I could have eaten another plate of that. Make sure there is bread on the table so you can soak up the leftover sauce!! The scallops on the bed of risotto were huge!!!! Our server was so knowledgeable-we asked her for suggestions and all four of us were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed our evening! Fantastic service!

We were in the back room - atmosphere not so great back there would have preferred a seat in the main dining room but understand as they were extremely busy,

A great choice in downtown Halifax. Not-to-difficult street parking, excellent service and really great food

My meal (special strip specia), was tender and excellently cooked, Very little fat to cut off. My wife's on the other hand, same special, was way too much fat and tasted like cardboard. Waiter was excellent as was the escargot, mussels and dessert. I found out too late or you would have heard about her experience before we left. We have been going to your restaurant since back in the 60's at the location around the corner. -----Sharon and George Holmans---------

As we have come to know Cafe Chianti over many years, one thing for sure is our expectations are met and exceeded. The food is excellent as is the service and atmosphere. Highly recommend Cafe Chianti with hesitation. Dean & Kim

The food was not very good. The pre dinner bread was hard and not fresh. The calamari was not very good as were the main courses. Overall quite dissapointing.

I took my 13 year old daughter for a special jaunt to Halifax and I must say that our dinner at the Cafe Chianti was the highlight of our weekend. The moment we arrived we received a genuine welcome and the service the entire evening was warm and professional. Add to that the fact that the food was amazing and the lighting, table settings and decor created a perfect atmosphere. My 13 year loves sorbet and considers herself a sorbet connoisseur and she said it was the absolute best she's ever had. We look forward to returning!

Have been to Cafe Chianti a few times and never had any issues. This visit we sent the calamari (not fresh) and creme brule (grainy texture like pudding) back. The main course was passable but not overly exciting. The service was quick efficient and the the waiter looked after our concerns without hesitation. Found out main chef was on vacation so we will return and give them a chance for redemption.

The service was lovely and the food was delicious. I’ll be back!

It was very good. I always like it there. They were busy this evening & they were a bit slow, but we didn't mind. We weren't in a hurry.

We were seen to promptly, even with a very large group arriving just before us. Our server was professional, friendly and helpful. He was attentive to our needs without hovering. The food was excellent - we all had very different main dishes. The only slight disappointment I had was that the sauce for the risotto balls was not as good as I remember it from two years ago. A small, first-world problem for me indeed. The prices are in line with upscale Italian restaurants. We will return.

It took a while to place our order but the service was excellent overall.

Cafe Chianti hides its charms from the outside. The restaurant is in a modern building with a relatively plain street facade, but step inside and it feels like a classical Italy. The decor is a tad heavy but, again, classic, with plenty of space between tables for intimate conversation. There are some delights on the menu, too. Arancini balls are a favourite, as is the asparagus wrapped in proscuitio, with a fried egg! Sounds strange but it is delightfully flavourful. We skipped the pizza/pasta options and went with the seafood crepe and the duck. I wasn't wild about the mushroom rissotto but that's a personal thing - my wife loved it. Desserts were both lemony and light - cheesecake and panna cotta. And to make the evening even better, we had used Groupon to get a fantastic bargain on the meal. Well worth it for a lovely date night.

Well worth the drive and the service was excellent.

The gluten free minestrone soup was excellent. It was a nice treat as I have not had minestrone soup in quite a while being Celiac. I ordered the lamb shank entree for dinner, gluten free. I was told the sauce had gluten in it when it was delivered to the table (even though it was marked as gluten free in the menu) and that the chef had prepared a gluten free sauce for me instead. The sauce was a very dark brown, almost black which made the meal look very unappealing. The lamb was not very tender and the sauce creates an overall unpleasant taste to the entire meal. I was disappointed with this as it was my first time here and for my birthday at that and the rest of my table seemed to enjoy their meals greatly. I chalk it up to ordering the wrong thing but the meal has no where to go but up in my opinion.

First time at Cafe Chianti, for our group of four. It was a warm, friendly, inviting atmosphere. Service was great, thank you Scott. The food was delicious. We all had a different starter, main and dessert everything was of excellent standard.I look forward to our next trip to Halifax so we can visit again.

Service was fine. Food was average. My wife’s fish was overcooked and my pizza was bland. Wine list by the glass was just ok. Overall, there are lots of other options to choose from in Halifax.

Great food and great atmosphere. The staff are attentive. Try the shrimp appetizer- it was amazing!

Our server was great.....very professional and friendly at the same time. Chicken under a Brick was fabulous. Only weak part was the Caesar salad......not creamy or very much dressing and could not taste any anchovies.

The food was amazing, can't wait to go back to Halifax so we can return to Chianti and try different menu items. The lamb stuffed raviolis were delicious and so was the veal! Definitely must try's!

We are from USA and we're in town for weekend. Recommended to go here by Inn owner. It was pleasently good. Real Italian food but the portions were very small on the entree section. One of every veggie too. But food taste was good. If you are in town and need a pleasant meal, go here.

A local favourite that never fails to please. Great food and service.
by LauraS on February 12, 2018
The decor and menu selection could be classified as outdated by the pessimistic but I prefer to view it as classic and familiar. I feel the restaurant is "owning" the sort of stereotypical Italian restaurant image and doing a darn good job of it, too. Our waiter was perfect, attentive without being overbearing at all. We were invited to ask any questions we may have had. He was also very gracious about us using a groupon for a discount. The only flaw was we both felt parts of our meals were slightly overdone - my spaghetti and his risotto were both a bit past al dente but not soft enough to ruin the dish. Everything was very well seasoned and cooked to perfection otherwise. The lemon cheesecake was especially delightful.
by SuzanneD on February 10, 2018
Very good food as usual. Had the seafood linguine which is the best. Had purchased a groupon for a meal for two which includes appetizer, main, and desert. It’s important to note that for those you have to pay tax on the full amount of the meals, not the groupon itself so it ends up not being as good a deal as you think. Prices at Chianti are on the high end and food quality is at par with that.

Excellent food and exemplary team service!
by OpenTable Diner on January 27, 2018
We have dined here before and loved it but this time not so much. On this visit, the service was excellent but some dishes were just ok. We ordered the escargot and calamari to start and while the calamari was delicious, I found the sauce the escargot came in was kind of blah. It needed salt or some zip added to it. We had the seafood linguine and the blackened haddock as entrees. The linguine was good, not great, and the haddock was a thin end piece so while the blackened seasoning made it flavourful, the overall dish was a disappointment. The vegetables (carrot, peppers, zucchini) that came with the haddock were delicious and cooked perfectly. However, for ~$100, We probably won’t go back.

I found the prices outrageous. My main course of Cannaloni with veal was burnt. Found portion very small. I will not be back.

It was my first time experiencing duck. It was fantastic. The ambiance is perfect and the food is fantastic. The waiter we had was the nicest man we had ever met and we will certainly be returning.

My wife, son, his girlfriend and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Café Chianti on Tuesday evening. It was my wife's birthday and the restaurant staff made it very special including candle lit desert. Two ordered from the "dine around Halifax" menu which was great and offered good value. I enjoyed the lobster bisque, which contained surprisingly large portions of lobster. Initially I thought it was a little pricy at $15, but it was really worth it. My strip loin steak was done to perfection, medium rare. It was tender and had a great grilled flavour. Veggies were hot and crispy. A nice basket of fresh warm bread was provided at no extra charge. I would have enjoyed a little horseradish with my steak, but it was not available. The presentation of the meal was impressive. We took pictures! Overall, the best meal I have had in Halifax recently.
